— The Questions We Get Weekly —

The answers, without the sales pitch.

Written by our technical team, updated against IS 3614:2023 and NBCS 2026. If your question isn't listed, our engineers respond on WhatsApp within 24 hours.

01 What fire ratings do Tufwud fire doors carry? +

Tufwud manufactures two ISI-marked insulated fire door lines: FD60ID, rated for 60 minutes, and FD120ID, rated for 120 minutes. Both are supplied with the full test and certification documentation for your project file — ISI licence number, IS 3614:2023 test report, and BS 476 Part 22 test compliance where applicable.

02 What does a "fully insulated" fire door mean, and why does it matter? +

A fire door can be rated for integrity alone — it holds back flame and smoke — or for integrity and insulation, meaning it also limits the temperature rise on the side away from the fire.

An insulated door keeps the escape route survivable for people passing it during evacuation. In a real fire, an integrity-only door's back surface can exceed 300°C, which is unsafe to touch. Tufwud insulated doors restrict the unexposed-side rise to 140°C above ambient — proper life-safety protection, not just a compliance label.

Tufwud was the first Indian manufacturer to carry an ISI mark for a fully insulated fire door.

03 Which Indian standard applies to fire doors, and do I need an ISI mark? +

IS 3614 is the Indian Standard covering fire check doors. An ISI mark is third-party certification by the Bureau of Indian Standards confirming that a product conforms to the relevant standard — with periodic factory audits, not just a one-time test.

Many PMCs, fire officers and government tenders ask for ISI-marked doors specifically. Under NBCS 2026, Part F Clause 2.22, the specification net has tightened further. Confirm the exact requirement with your fire consultant or the authority having jurisdiction for your building.

04 What acoustic performance can Tufwud doors achieve? +

Tufwud acoustic and soundproof fire doors are engineered for sound insulation of up to 42 dB. Real-world performance depends on the door leaf construction, frame profile, seals and — critically — the installation detail. A door that tests at 42 dB in a lab can drop to 32 dB if the frame gap isn't sealed properly on site.

Share your target dB rating and use case (banquet hall, hospital consult room, recording studio, hotel corridor) with our technical team before finalising specs, and we'll match construction to acoustic goal.

05 Do you supply lead-lined doors for X-ray and radiology rooms? +

Yes. Tufwud lead-lined doors provide radiation shielding for X-ray rooms, CT and radiology suites, MRI zones, cath labs, and oncology treatment areas. Lead thickness is specified project-by-project, typically between 1.5 mm and 3 mm, based on the physicist's shielding calculation.

Lead-lining can be combined with fire rating where the room also sits on a protected escape route — a common requirement in modern hospital compartmentation.

06 What other door types does Tufwud manufacture? +

Beyond the fire-rated range:

  • Glazed fire doors — where visibility through the opening is required (hospital corridors, offices).
  • Gatemet metal fire doors — for basements, service shafts, transformer rooms, industrial applications.
  • Acoustic & soundproof doors — standalone acoustic performance without fire rating.
  • Lead-lined doors — radiation shielding for medical imaging.
  • Laminated, veneered and designer wooden doors — for interior architectural applications.
07 Where does Tufwud supply, and where is the factory? +

Tufwud operates from its head office in Kolkata (Behala) with regional offices in Maharashtra, Delhi and Bengaluru, and manufacturing units in Kolkata, Surat and Rajasthan.

The company has served over 2,000 clients across more than 2,800 projects, with active supply across West Bengal, Maharashtra, Delhi, Karnataka, Gujarat, Sikkim, Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, Assam and the wider Northeast.

08 Do you provide installation, hardware and AMC? +

Yes. Tufwud offers end-to-end support:

  • Compliance documentation and certificates (for fire NOC, insurance, statutory audits)
  • Complete hardware and fixing solutions — hinges, closers, seals, panic bars, trim locks
  • Installation by trained crews across pan-India project sites
  • Annual Maintenance Contracts (AMC) for portfolios of installed doors
  • Audit support for licensing renewals and re-certification
